My Search for Life’s Meaning – I found My God… In my heart… [Paperback]
Product Description
My Search: For Life’s Meaning—I found My God. . . In my heart. . . by Jon Bruder, details his life and how God led him step by step from aimlessness after WWII to finding direction and purpose.
From his bombing missions in WWII to his journey to the monastery and hermitage, he speaks honestly about the dark nights and joyful days that led him to the Light. Fr. Jon believes the book will prove a great help to many as they seek their place in life.
The book consists of 20 chapters with titles like “Something Quiet and Gentle,” “Clouds Lost Their Shyness,” “All Whiteness,” and “Darkness to Light.” It also includes three Mission talks, a Prayer Retreat, 50 poems and 14 personal photographs.
Asked what he hoped people would get from the book, Fr. Jon replied, “that they realize how much God loves them. If they only knew, it’d blow their mind.”
About the Author
Born of an Irish mother and a German father, Jon Bruder was raised in Superior, Wisconsin. Before he was eighteen, he took a course in mechanics with his father, but he was too young for a factory job, so he went to work in a mine half a mile below the surface. Later he moved to Detroit to the defense factories. During WWII, he was a navigator with the Air Force, and flew 50 bombing missions over Italy.
After the war, his brother, who had studied to be a Jesuit but had left for health reasons, said to him, “Give me one good reason why you couldn’t become a priest.” Jon couldn’t think of a reason, so he went to New Jersey and joined the Paulist order. Within a few weeks, he “fell in love with God” and hasn’t been the same since. He joined the Trappist monks in New Mexico, a silent order, where the monks spent their days in prayer and work. There he repaired machinery and farm equipment.
After fifteen years of community life, he longed for solitude, to be alone with God. The Abbot sent him to a hermitage in Ohio, where he was happy for two years. Still he wanted to be alone. He was given leave from the monastery, and with a $99 bus pass, traveled the country, ending up in Danville, Vermont, where he built himself a small house with no electricity or plumbing. Wanting to share his “love affair with God,” he began speaking at various parishes and missions, and soon was well known in and around New England for his humorous and love-filled speaking style.
No longer able to travel and preach, but still yearning to share God’s message of Love, Fr. Jon has written My Search: For Life’s Meaning—I found My God. . . In my heart. . . .
